12V vs 24V LED Drivers: How to Select the Correct Voltage
Choosing between a 12V and a 24V LED driver is not really a free choice: the driver voltage has to match the voltage of the strip it powers. A 12V strip needs a 12V driver, and a 24V strip needs a 24V driver, with no crossing between them. So the real task is confirming your strip's voltage and selecting a driver to match, then making sure that driver has enough wattage for the run. The reason both voltages exist is that they suit different runs, which is decided at the strip stage.

Match the driver voltage to the strip
The single most important rule is that the driver and strip share the same voltage. A 12V strip is designed to receive 12V, and a 24V strip is designed to receive 24V. Connecting a 12V strip to a 24V driver sends it double the voltage it expects, which can damage it, while connecting a 24V strip to a 12V driver leaves it underpowered and dim.
