Backlighting bottle shelves without glare
Bottles look best when light passes through them, so the strip belongs behind the bottles or under the shelf above them, not in front. On a floating shelf with a lip, tuck the tape behind the lip and aim it down over the labels. On a glass shelf, a strip along the back edge sends light through the glass and picks up an edge glow. On solid shelves, mount under the shelf above so each row lights the one below.
A continuous band looks cleaner behind glass than a row of separate points, which is why COB style tape is popular for a back bar. Format still depends on output, viewing distance, channel depth, diffuser, and LED density, so compare per product. An aluminum channel helps dissipate heat and tidies the run, and it reduces rather than guarantees removal of visible dots. It is never mandatory.
Color and scene control for a party bar
A bar is one of the few rooms where color changing light earns its keep, since the same shelf can read warm and quiet on a weeknight and saturated on a Saturday. Spills, splashes, and exact IP ratings
Bars are wet in small, specific spots, so never treat a strip as generally "waterproof"; ask what each location will actually see. Behind dry shelving, an indoor strip is usually fine. Along a counter lip where a shaker can spray, or beside a sink or ice well, look for a strip whose stated rating covers splash exposure, IP65 for example, and confirm that figure on the product page. The tape rating alone is not the answer. What you use for connectors and end seals, how the driver is enclosed, and what local code says all decide whether the installation suits the spot. The whole system has to match the environment.
Power, heat, and electrical safety
Voltage has to match: a 24V strip needs a 24V driver, and a 12V supply is not an option. Work out watts per foot times total installed length, then add at least 20 percent current headroom (verify the guidance before you rely on it). Run the strips in parallel from the driver, never in series, so a long shelf run does not fade at the far end. Strips also produce heat in use, worth remembering inside a closed cabinet with little airflow. Where the job includes a hardwired driver, a junction box, a wall dimmer, or a new circuit, treat it as line-voltage work and follow the product instructions, local code, and the NEC where it applies, with a licensed electrician when required.
