Placement that avoids glare and reflections
Mounting matters more here than in most rooms because a media space is built around one bright surface. Keep every strip out of the sightline between the seats and the screen, and off any glossy wall or cabinet that faces the display, since a reflection is as distracting as the strip itself. Behind the screen, set the bias strip in from the edges so its light spreads on the wall rather than leaking around the frame. For step and floor runs, aim the light down and back and hide the tape behind a nosing.
A continuous, dot-free line reads better than a row of points in a dark room. A COB strip gives that smooth band. Whether COB or another format suits a spot depends on light output, viewing distance, any channel and diffuser, LED density, and control options, so judge it per product.
Color and tunable options for scenes
Because a media room does more than play films, a strip that can change is worth planning for: warm and dim for a film, a neutral white for tidying up, or a color wash for a game. Channels, heat, and a clean finish
An aluminum channel with a diffuser keeps the tape straight, softens a COB run into an even band, and its aluminum helps dissipate the heat the strip produces. LED strips do generate heat in use, so a channel helps manage it while protecting the tape and improving the look. A channel reduces but does not guarantee removal of visible dots, which also depend on LED density, channel depth, and diffuser. Behind the screen you rarely see the strip, but along a step nosing a diffused channel looks more finished.
Power, voltage, and safety
Match the voltage exactly: a 24V strip needs a 24V driver, never crossed with a 12V supply. Size the driver from the strip's watts per foot times your installed length, add current headroom of at least 20 percent (verify), and pick one with enough capacity for the strip and controller. If you run several sections, wire the constant-voltage runs in parallel, not in series, so one does not dim the next.
Tuck the driver and controller in an equipment rack or a nearby cavity and route the low-voltage leads out of sight. Any hardwired driver connection, junction box, or wall dimmer at line voltage is work for a qualified electrician where local code requires it, so follow the product instructions along with your local code and the NEC where it applies.
