So, what is CRI? CRI, or Color Rendering Index, measures how accurately a light source shows the true colors of the objects it lights, on a scale up to 100. A higher CRI means colors look more natural and true to life; a lower CRI can make the same wood, food, skin, or fabric look dull or slightly off. For LED strip lighting in kitchens, living spaces, retail, and anywhere finishes matter, CRI is one of the most important numbers to check, alongside brightness and color temperature.

What is CRI, exactly?
CRI is a score that compares how a light renders colors against a reference light of the same color temperature. The closer to 100, the more faithfully colors appear. It is separate from brightness, which is measured in lumens per foot, and from color temperature, which describes how warm or cool the white looks. A strip can be bright but render colors poorly, so CRI answers a different question: not how much light, but how true the light makes colors look.
Because CRI is tied to the specific product, do not assume a value. Check the rated CRI on the strip's page rather than treating all strips as high-CRI. Two strips at the same color temperature and brightness can still differ in CRI, so it is a spec worth comparing directly rather than inferring from how a strip looks in a photo.
