Conference room LED strip lighting works best as hidden architectural light: a cove around the ceiling perimeter, a slot beside the display wall, and a low run under the credenza, all placed so nobody at the table sees a bare emitter. Two things decide whether the room reads well: where light lands on the screen, and how the room appears on a video call. Get the geometry right and zone the runs, and one room shifts from a bright working look to a low screen friendly setting.

Where conference room LED strip lighting belongs in the ceiling

Three positions cover most rooms. A perimeter cove is the workhorse: tape in a channel on the upstand of a ceiling recess or on top of a dropped bulkhead, throwing light up so the ceiling plane becomes the visible source. Light bounces before it reaches anyone, so nobody sees a fixture from a seated position.

The second is the display wall. A slot set back from the screen surround grazes the wall around the panel so it is not black behind a bright image. Keep it outside the bezel and aim it away from the glass. The third is furniture: a run under the credenza lip or the leading edge of a fixed table adds a low line in a dark room. Skip anything above the table pointing down, since that is where reflections start.

Screens, glass, and how the room appears on camera

The failure everyone recognizes is a bright band reflected across a display or a glass partition. The test is simple: sit in every seat and look at the screen. If you can see the strip, it is in the reflection zone and has to move back, turn, or be shielded by the channel lip. A glass partition doubles it: the strip appears directly and in the reflection.

On camera, the concern is how the picture appears. Uplight from a cove reaches faces indirectly and avoids the hard top shadow a downward source produces, while a grazing run behind the camera keeps the background from going dark. Dimming scenes for presentation and for meeting

A conference room needs a handful of settings. Meeting keeps the cove up and the display wall moderate. Presentation drops the cove low and the display wall lower still, so nothing in the room competes with the screen. A setup setting runs everything to full.

Scenes are only as good as the dimming chain, so verify strip, driver, controller, and any wall control together before promising smooth low end behavior. Loads and protocol all have to agree. Do not put a low voltage smart controller and a phase cut wall dimmer on the same circuit unless the documentation explicitly allows it; treat them as separate methods and pick one per zone.

Zoning the room so each run is independent

Those three runs want different levels at different moments, so give each its own channel. For the cove, a dot free COB line reads cleanly against a flat ceiling. Power, heat, and access above the ceiling

Add the cove, wall, and furniture runs into one total first. Driver capacity comes from watts per foot multiplied by installed feet, with at least 20 percent current headroom on top (verify the current guidance). Voltage is not negotiable: a 24V strip belongs on a 24V driver. Wire each zone back in parallel, never chained in series, so the far corner of the cove matches the near one. Strips produce heat and a shallow plaster cove traps it, so an aluminum channel earns its place: it helps dissipate heat, protects the tape, and reduces but does not guarantee removal of visible dots. It is not mandatory. Where a driver is hardwired, a junction box is involved, or a wall control is fitted, follow the manufacturer instructions, local code, and the NEC where applicable, and bring in a licensed electrician. Leave drivers reachable, because a sealed void above a fixed table is the worst place to hide a power supply.

Common mistakes in conference rooms

Running the cove tight into the corner is the first: jammed against the return, the strip produces a hot line instead of a wash. The second is a single zone for the whole room, which forces one compromise level for presentation and discussion alike. The third is a run above the table pointing down, straight into the tabletop finish.

The installer tip worth stealing: mock the cove before the ceiling closes. Tape a short offcut in position, power it, and view it from the far end of the table with the screen on. Moving it back an inch costs nothing then.

Frequently asked questions

How far back should a cove strip sit from the ceiling face? Far enough that the beam opens into a wash rather than a stripe, which depends on cove depth and channel type. Mock it up before the detail is closed.

Can one driver run the whole conference room? Only if its capacity covers every run plus headroom. Total watts per foot times installed feet across all zones, add at least 20 percent, then confirm the driver rating.

Will a strip behind the display cause glare on the screen? It can if it sits inside the reflection path. Keep it outside the bezel, aim it away from the glass, and check the view from each chair.

Should the room use warm or neutral white? That is a preference and finish decision. Keep one nominal color temperature across all three runs so surfaces do not read as two different whites.

Do I need separate control for the display wall run? It is the zone most worth separating, because presentation mode wants it dimmed further than the cove. Check the controller has a spare channel.
