The question that settles a plug-in driver or hardwired install is whether an accessible outlet sits within cord reach of a spot where the driver can live, stay ventilated and be reached later. If one does, plug in. A plug-in driver keeps your side of the wall at low voltage, comes out without patching anything, and swaps in minutes.
