How to Read an LED Strip Spec Sheet
Most bad orders trace back to one line somebody skimmed. Once you can read an LED strip spec sheet in the right sequence, mismatches surface on screen instead of on a ladder. The sheet answers five separate questions: what the tape needs electrically, how much light it makes, how that light will look, where it is allowed to sit, and how short a finished piece can be. Only a handful of the fields decide whether the parts already in your cart will physically and electrically work together. Those go first.
The four fields that decide compatibility
Voltage heads the list, because every other electrical number on the page assumes it. A 24V strip is fed from a 24V supply and a 12V strip from a 12V supply. The two are never crossed.
Cut interval comes next. It gives the spacing between designated cut points, which sets the shortest usable section and how closely a length can be trimmed to a cabinet or a cove. Many strips can be cut at those marks and rejoined with a compatible connector or by soldering, depending on the product, so read the stated cut method alongside the spacing.
Maximum run is third. It caps the distance one powered length can cover from a single feed before the far end starts losing brightness to voltage drop. Designs that exceed it get a second feed or an injection point, with each length returned to the driver in parallel and never chained one behind another. Width closes the group. It has to suit the inside dimension of any channel and the body of any connector you intend to clip on. Tape a fraction wider than the extrusion simply will not seat.
