The first thing to check in any teaching room is the front wall. Zones that match how the room is used

Three zones are usually enough: front, general, and circulation or back wall. The front zone drops for projection, the general zone carries the everyday appearance of the room, and the circulation zone stays on while the room is cleaned or set up.

Teaching rooms get knocked. Furniture moves, displays get pinned to walls, and cleaning happens nightly. Exposed tape on a painted surface will not last a school year in reach of any of that.

Picking the strip

Output follows ceiling height and surface color, so a room with a white ceiling at nine feet needs far less than a converted hall with a dark timber soffit. Power, heat, and the electrical work

Every run in the room goes into one figure. Watts per foot across that installed length sets the load, and the driver takes at least 20 percent of current headroom (verify the current guidance). Voltage pairs exactly, 24V tape with a 24V driver. Runs go back in parallel, not series, so the far corner matches the near one. Strips generate heat and a tight bulkhead slot holds it, which is one reason an aluminum channel is worth fitting: it helps dissipate heat, protects the tape, and reduces but does not guarantee removal of visible dots, which also depend on LED density, channel depth, and diffuser. It is not mandatory. Hardwired drivers, junction boxes, and wall controls are for a licensed electrician working to the manufacturer instructions, local code, and the NEC where applicable, and estates teams will want the driver positions recorded on the as built drawing.

What tends to go wrong in classrooms

Lighting the front wall from directly above it is the most common error, and it puts a bright reflection into the board for the middle rows. Second is a single switch for the whole room, which forces the general lighting down every time the projector goes on. Third is unhoused tape at desk height, damaged within a term.

The check worth doing at first fix: bring in a projector or panel, sit in the back and middle rows, and power a sample run in position. Reflections that would otherwise appear on the first teaching day show up at once.
