What SMD LED strips actually are

SMD stands for surface-mounted device. Each LED is an individual chip soldered onto the board at set spacing, usually described by density such as 60 or 120 LEDs per meter. You can see the separate points of light if you look closely.

SMD has one real strength: raw output per watt. A well-built SMD strip can push high brightness for a lower cost, which makes it a smart pick when the strip is tucked out of sight.
