How to cut aluminum LED channel cleanly
Mark the cut line with a fine pencil or a scribe, carrying the line across the face of the channel and down at least one side so you can keep the blade square. A speed square or a small combination square held against the channel gives you that reference edge.
For the cut, a miter saw with a fine-tooth blade rated for non-ferrous metal gives the straightest result and clean 45-degree corners. Clamp the channel firmly, let the blade reach full speed, and feed it slowly so the aluminum shears rather than grabs. No miter saw? A hacksaw with a fine-tooth blade in a miter box handles straight and angled cuts alike; let the blade do the work rather than forcing it. Either way, wear eye protection, keep your fingers clear of the blade, and let hot swarf cool before brushing it away. This is a mechanical job at no mains voltage, but a spinning blade and metal chips still deserve care.
A common installer habit: cut the channel slightly long on the first pass, dry-fit it, then trim the last sliver off. It is far easier to shave a bit more than to lengthen a piece you cut short.
Deburr and dry-fit
A fresh cut leaves a thin burr along the edges and inside the track. Run a flat file or fine sanding block along the cut face and ease the inside corners so the cover snaps home and the strip slides in without catching, then wipe the dust out with a dry cloth. Dry-fit next: set the channel against the surface, check the ends land on your marks, and confirm the cover clips flush along the whole length before you commit to mounting.
Only after the dry-fit looks right should you clean the surface and fasten the channel. Skipping the dry-fit is how people discover a crooked end or a cover that will not seat, after the adhesive is already down.
Match the channel to the strip and surface
Cutting is only half the job; the channel has to suit the strip and the spot. Confirm the strip's tape width against the channel's internal width so the tape seats flat, and check the overall height if clearance is tight under a cabinet.
