Mirror walls, reflections, and where the tape hides
The mirror doubles your lighting design, including the parts you did not want doubled. Anything visible in the reflection reads as a second source behind the glass, so a ceiling run parallel to the mirror appears twice from the middle of the room.
Two positions usually work. Behind the mirror head, in a rebate or shadow gap, so light washes down the glass and the source never appears in the reflection. Or perpendicular to the mirror wall, running front to back across the ceiling, so the reflected line recedes rather than sitting in anyone's eyeline. A deep channel with a diffuser and a shielding lip helps in both cases, since the cut off keeps emitters out of view from floor level. Stand where the class stands, then lie down where it lies down, and look at the mirror before anything is fixed.
Even output across a large floor
Studios read badly when they are patchy. A continuous perimeter cove, or parallel ceiling lines at a consistent spacing, gives a flatter field than a few concentrated runs. The longer throw makes higher output tape sensible. Keep one nominal color temperature across the room; a mirror wall at one white against a ceiling at another shows the mismatch immediately.
Color scenes for studio classes
Studios often want a bright neutral look for functional training and a saturated color look for cycle or dance sessions. An RGB and tunable white tape covers both from one installation. Keep control methods separate too, since a low voltage color controller and a phase cut wall dimmer should not share a circuit unless the documentation allows it.
Durability, heat, and power in a working gym
Mount runs above head height and equipment reach where you can. Where a strip sits lower, a rigid aluminum channel with a lens takes the knocks the tape cannot. Channels also help dissipate heat, which matters where total run length is high and warm air collects at ceiling level; they are not mandatory, and they reduce but do not guarantee removal of visible dots. Strips do produce heat, so avoid enclosing them in an unventilated void.
Total the installed feet across cove, mirror wall, and accent runs first. Multiply that length by watts per foot, then add at least 20 percent current headroom before sizing the driver (verify the current guidance). Voltages agree exactly, 24V tape on a 24V driver, and every run wires back to the supply in parallel, never chained in series. Split a large floor into several driver zones so cable runs stay short. Hardwired driver work, junction boxes, and wall controls are for a licensed electrician following the manufacturer instructions, local code, and the NEC where applicable.
