Color rendering matters more in a garage than people expect. Power, voltage, and safety
Match the voltage exactly. A 24V strip needs a 24V driver, never crossed with a 12V supply. Size the driver from the strip's watts per foot times your installed length, add current headroom of at least 20 percent (verify), and choose one with enough capacity for every zone combined if they run off one supply. Wire the constant-voltage runs in parallel, not in series, so the bench and the far shelf stay equally bright.
Any hardwired driver connection, junction box, wall switch, or new circuit at line voltage is work for a qualified electrician where local code requires it, so follow the product instructions along with your local code and the NEC where it applies. Low-voltage strip guidance is never permission to do unqualified line-voltage work. If a garage strip could see damp, splashing, or a hose-down near the door, check that the strip's IP rating and the driver enclosure suit that exposure and verify the exact rating before you rely on it.
