This is the point people miss. A strip can carry a high IP rating while the connections, end seals, and power supply do not, and the weakest link is where water gets in. So treat the strip, the solder joints or connectors, the end caps, the cable, and the driver enclosure as one system that all has to suit the location. An outdoor-rated strip fed by an indoor driver in a spot that can get wet is still an outdoor problem. Verify the driver's enclosure rating and the sealing of every connection for the exposure they will face, and keep drivers and joins in a protected, dry, serviceable spot where you can.

Under a covered patio you have more latitude because the roof does much of the work, but humidity and blown rain still argue for a strip and connections rated for outdoor use.
