Warm-dim LED lighting compared with setting a temperature yourself
The useful contrast is with tunable white, where two white channels are blended by a controller and you set the temperature independently of brightness. There, cool at ten percent and warm at full output are both available, because the two variables are separate. In sunset-style dimming they are welded together: one input, one path through the range, no way to hold a cool tone at a low level.

Where the behavior suits a room
It reads best in positions people dim deliberately and often. A dining cove taken down before a meal, a living room perimeter dropped for a film, a bar or restaurant line brought low as the evening runs on: in all of them the amber shift arrives at the moment somebody was already reaching for the dimmer, and it looks intentional rather than like a fault.
It also flatters warm materials. Oak, brass and terracotta gain depth as the tone falls, so a cove or a stair nosing near those finishes keeps its character at low level.
It suits least the positions where color must stay steady while brightness moves. Under cabinet task light above a prep surface, a mirror line, a wardrobe interior, a workshop bench: dim any of those and the surface color drifts, which is a problem if somebody is matching a paint, chopping an onion or choosing a shirt. Those runs are better served by a fixed tone or by adjustable white. Control, compatibility and mixing runs
Because the shift is triggered by dim level, the whole chain has to be right before the effect behaves. Strip, driver and control device all have to be compatible, including the minimum and maximum load the dimmer accepts. Check that combination against the manufacturer documentation for every part rather than assuming a general match, and treat a low-voltage controller and a phase-cut wall dimmer as separate methods rather than putting both on one circuit.
Any part of that chain involving a wall dimmer, a hardwired driver or a junction box is line-voltage work. Work to the documentation supplied with each device, to whatever local code governs the site, to NEC where that applies, and hand the line-voltage portion to a licensed electrician when the job calls for one.
One planning point trips people up. Two runs in the same sightline on separate dimmers only match while both sit at the same level, since tone follows level. Group runs that must look identical onto one control.
