Match the channel count
A controller drives a fixed set of channels, and the strip has to fit inside that set. A single-color strip needs one channel. RGB needs three, one each for red, green, and blue. RGBW adds a white channel for four. RGB+CCT needs five, since it carries red, green, blue, warm white, and cool white. A controller with fewer channels than the strip cannot light every color the strip is capable of, and a controller built for the wrong strip type may not respond at all.
Some controllers cover several strip types in one unit. Check the current the controller can carry
A controller has a per-channel current limit and a total limit, and your strip's draw has to stay under both. Work out the load from the strip's watts per foot times the installed length, then compare that against the controller's rating with headroom to spare. If a listing states a figure such as 3A per channel, treat it as a number to verify on the product page against your run, not a promise for every install. A longer run may need a controller with more capacity, a power injection approach, or splitting the run, so size before you buy.
Rule 7: verify the whole chain before you commit
This is the step people skip, and it is the one that matters most. Before you order, confirm that the strip, the driver, and the controller all agree on voltage, channel count, strip type, protocol, and the minimum and maximum load. A controller that looks right on paper can still be the wrong choice if the driver output or the strip's current does not line up. Do not assume compatibility from a product name, and do not promise yourself smooth, flicker-free control until the exact combination has been checked against the LED Club product pages. When every part of the chain matches, you have chosen the right controller.
Pick your control method, then keep it consistent
Decide how you want to operate the light, whether by app, by RF remote, by a wall control, or by a mix the system explicitly supports. Then keep the method consistent across the run. Do not try to run a smart low-voltage controller and a phase-cut wall dimmer on the same circuit unless the system documentation specifically allows it, because those are separate methods and combining them can cause the low-voltage controller to receive a chopped line-voltage signal it is not built for. For any hardwired driver or wall control, follow the manufacturer instructions and local electrical code, and use a licensed electrician when line-voltage work is involved.
