Choosing the source for sparkle
Do not decide by format name. Whether discrete emitters or a continuous emitting line give the better result depends on output, viewing distance, channel depth, diffuser type, and LED density, so judge it product by product.
A higher output run behind a clear or lightly frosted lens holds the point character that makes facets flash, while heavy frosting flattens it into an even wash. Color rendering for metals and stones
A high published CRI keeps yellow gold, rose gold, and plated brass distinct under store light, and it stops a cool stone drifting warm. Read the CRI value on the page and verify it before you rely on it.
Color temperature is an appearance decision most retailers settle by category. Warmer white tends to favor yellow gold and amber stones, while neutral white keeps platinum, steel watch cases, and diamonds looking clean. Hold it consistent across every cabinet, since a customer comparing two rings reads any white shift as a difference in the metal.
Tight, low profile runs inside the case
Case interiors are shallow, and the rail you have to work with is often less than half an inch deep, so measure the rebate before choosing a channel.
Plan the run so joints land out of sight. Many strips can be cut at designated points and reconnected with compatible connectors or by soldering, depending on the product, so confirm the cut interval and joining method for the exact item. Feed wires through the back corner, and pick housings from the LED channels and profiles collection.
Heat in a sealed case
A closed cabinet slows the airflow that would carry warmth away, and LED strips do generate heat in use, so the mounting surface matters here. Mounting the tape into an aluminum channel or onto a metal rail helps dissipate that heat and protects the run from a tray edge. A channel is not mandatory, and it reduces but does not guarantee the removal of visible dots, which depend on LED density, channel depth, and diffuser as well. Keep the driver outside the cabinet with clearance around it.
Glare on glass, and where to aim
The pane reflects whatever sits in front of it, so a run mounted flat under the top rail often appears as a bright bar over the merchandise. Set the strip behind a small lip so the emitters are shielded from the standing sightline, then tilt the run inward toward the tray with an angled channel or a shim. Check the result from customer height with the ceiling lights on.
Power, control, and the electrical side
Count the installed feet across every cabinet. Multiply that by watts per foot, and specify a driver with at least 20 percent current headroom above it (verify the current guidance). Voltage has to be an exact match, 24V tape on a 24V driver. Each cabinet runs in parallel back to the driver instead of in series.
To dim the accent layer separately from the fill, verify strip, driver, controller, and any wall control together, including minimum and maximum load, and keep methods apart, since a low voltage controller and a phase cut wall dimmer should not share a circuit unless the documentation permits. Hardwired drivers, junction boxes, and wall controls are for a licensed electrician following the manufacturer instructions, local code, and the NEC where applicable.
