Zones Respond Out of Order: How the Pairing Map Gets Scrambled
When zones respond out of order, the receivers are not confused. The pairing map is. A multi zone handset sends a distinct command per zone, and every receiver answers only to the zone it was taught. Four situations produce a mismatch. A receiver was paired to a zone other than the one you meant. Two receivers ended up sharing one zone. The remote was paired in a sequence different from the room order you carry in your head. Or a zone assignment was overwritten during a later pairing session, usually when a second receiver went in months later.
Planning a multi zone layout from scratch is four zone LED controller setups. Untangling one that has already gone wrong is the work here, and the button by button routine is pairing an LED controller to a remote.
Write the map down before you clear a single thing
Do not start pressing pairing buttons. You will lose the only evidence you have.
Take a sheet of paper and make two columns. On the left, every zone key on the handset. On the right, what each key actually controls right now, including keys that drive nothing and keys that drive two at once. Test each twice: a key that works intermittently means something different from a key assigned elsewhere.
That page usually diagnoses the fault before you touch anything. A clean one to one map in the wrong order is a sequencing problem. Two rows naming the same run is a shared zone. An empty row alongside a row with two entries is an overwrite.
Where this involves opening a wall plate or reaching a hardwired driver, shut off power at the breaker first. Line voltage work, hardwired drivers and junction boxes go to a licensed electrician, who follows the equipment documentation, the electrical code enforced in your area, and NEC requirements.
