Color scenes and zones that survive a changeover
A function room usually turns over three times in an evening: arrival, dinner, then party. Perimeter cove, bar, backdrop, and dance floor should each hold their own level and color.

Mounting fast without marking the room
Historic rooms, painted plaster, and papered walls are where temporary rigs get expensive. Fix to structure the venue already accepts: truss, drape frames, table skirting, or a freestanding backdrop frame. Where tape has to touch a finished surface, mount it into a channel first and fix the channel by a method the venue has approved in writing.
Pre-build what you can: cutting a strip into a profile in the workshop, terminating the ends, and labeling each section by position turns a two hour rig into forty minutes. Many strips can be cut at designated points and rejoined with compatible connectors or by soldering, depending on the product, so confirm the cut interval first. Leave slack at every feed point, since a run under tension pulls free mid event.
Terraces, marquees, and exact IP ratings
Once a run leaves the building the specification changes. Never rely on a general waterproof claim; work from the exact IP figure published for the product. An IP20 rated product suits dry interiors only. An IP65 rated product resists water jets from any direction. An IP67 rated product tolerates temporary immersion. Connectors, end seals, the driver, and its enclosure all have to suit the same exposure, and a marquee is not automatically a dry location once condensation forms overnight. Keep drivers off the ground where water can pool, and let local code govern anything permanent.
Power planning for a large room
Long rooms are where rigs come unstuck. Tally the installed feet zone by zone. Watts per foot across that length sets the load, and drivers need at least 20 percent current headroom beyond it (verify the current guidance). Voltage matches exactly, 24V tape on a 24V driver, and runs wire in parallel, never in series.
Distribute rather than centralize: several drivers around the room keep cable runs short and mean one fault does not darken the room. Note where the circuits are before the rig, and keep cable off walkways.
Verify the dimming chain from strip to driver to controller to any wall control, including minimum and maximum load, and keep control methods separate, because a low voltage controller only sits on the same circuit as a phase cut wall dimmer where the documentation says it may. Hardwired drivers, junction boxes, and fixed wall controls are for a licensed electrician following the manufacturer instructions, local code, and the NEC.
Heat, housings, and kit that travels
Strips give off heat while they run, and event kit is often packed into places with no airflow: a drape pocket, a plinth, a case closed while still warm. Mount runs into an aluminum channel where you can, since a channel helps dissipate heat and takes handling a bare reel will not survive. A channel is not mandatory, and it reduces without guaranteeing the removal of visible dots, which also depend on LED density, channel depth, and diffuser. Let sections cool before they go back in the case.
