App-Controlled LED Lighting: Components and Compatibility Requirements
App-controlled LED lighting lets you set color, brightness, and color temperature from your phone through a smart controller wired into the strip. The phone is not the control device on its own. It sends your command over WiFi to a small controller sitting between the driver and the LED strip, and that controller does the actual work of driving each channel. To make the system behave, four things have to line up: a compatible LED strip, a driver at the right voltage, a smart controller that matches the strip type, and an app that pairs with that controller. Get any one of those wrong and the lights may run, but the app control will not.

What app-controlled LED lighting needs to work
Think of the chain in order, because power and signal flow through it in order. The driver converts 120V AC to the low-voltage DC the strip uses, either 12V or 24V. The smart controller receives that DC power and switches the strip's channels thousands of times a second to set brightness and mix color. The app is the interface that tells the controller what you want. Remove the controller and you lose app control entirely, because the strip and driver alone cannot take a WiFi command.
